Ontario Federation of CFU
Lodges Celebrates the Woman and Man of Year 2007
On October 13th
Ontario Federation of CFU Lodges held its annual event to announce
winners of the prestigious award for the Woman and Man of the Year in
the competition selected among the members of very active CFU lodges
in Ontario. This year event was attended by over 350 people to
celebrate leadership and excellence within the Croatian-Canadian
community.
In attendance were
honoured political guests from Canadian federal, provincial and
municipal government, Consul General of Republic of Croatia Mr. Mario
Livaja as well as representatives from CFU head office Edward Pazo
Secretary of the CFU and Bernard M. Luketich, President of CFU.
The highlight of the
evening filled with music and positive spirit, was announcement from
the president of the Ontario Federation of CFU Lodges Ladislav Meze
that this year winners were Mary and Branko Grubic. They were
presented with a commemorative plaque in recognition of their
undaunted fraternal service.
Guests
were greeted in Croatian style by the Lado Tamburtzans directed by
Joe Loncarich and offered bread and slivovica, following by the
address of three of Grubic’s children Joe, Deanna and John who made
reference how to respect for family and the Croatian culture was an
important factor in their lives.
Over the years this
couple has organized and worked many CFU functions, contributing to
successes of the folklore group, active in their Croatian Parish,
Hamilton Holly Cross Church, aside from being accomplished in their
own business careers. Many guests and family members that came from
Pittsburgh, Calgary, Chicago, Atlanta, Sudbury, Windsor, St. Thomas,
Welland and Toronto extended their congratulations to Mary and
Branko.
